  1. A wart is a protuberance composed of a local 
  2. overgrowth of skin. The common wart (verruca 
  3. vulgaris) is due to a virus infection. It 
  4. usually disappears spontaneously within two 
  5. years, but can be treated with peeling 
  6. applications, burning away (cautery), or 
  7. freezing (cryosurgery).
