A wart is a protuberance composed of a local
overgrowth of skin. The common wart (verruca
vulgaris) is due to a virus infection. It
usually disappears spontaneously within two
years, but can be treated with peeling
applications, burning away (cautery), or
freezing (cryosurgery).
